Leaving on a Jet Plane

We just had lunch together and are leaving for the airport soon. The lump in my throat isn't the baked potato I just ate. Three hours and counting down quickly; half a xanax (don't worry, I have an Rx) has me functional. This is my last post while my son is within arm's reach. I'll see you all "After".

Ditto what LAW said. I prayed for you several times today.

How are you doing this morning?

Try "breathe and reboot." It is a new day.

Hi LAW and Butterfly:
I'm so-so; definitely a bit out of it and unfocused. Please know that I REALLY DO appreciate ALL of your comments---you help me know that I'm not alone in this. Someone I work w/ just asked me how my boys feel about the war...not a good question right now. I did say that my chances of losing a son "over there" just doubled. I've got to be more optimistic! Besides, Austin's still at Ft. Lewis for about a week.

When Kris was in Iraq in 2003 I developed this horrible pain in my chest that felt like my diaphragm was tightening up. It would intensify the more attention I paid to it. Then it eased off. Anyway, I'm starting to get that again. Just great.

Good to hear from you.

Co-workers can be difficult on this topic. Unless they have a husband/wife or son/daughter over there, they just don't get it. I'm not sure how else to put it. I don't think my co-workers try to be insensitive, it's just that their "stake in the game" is so very different from mine. And as such they are a little more loose with their words. I cannot have a conversation about the war (or anything related to the war including anything to do with my husband) with the guy in the cubicle next to me. Otherwise, all my good thoughts go right out the window and all I want to do is yell at him. Unfortunately, it is one of his favorite topics and he discusses it loudly with other co-workers in my hall. I just bite my lip, breathe in, breathe out, and tune him out. Yes, he does know how I feel.

Another thing. Over at Spouse Buzz, there was a link to an article about things not to say to the spouse of a deployed soldier. I linked to it at my blog as well (it was easier for me to find). You may (or may not) find it helpful in case someone says some of these things to you. It might allow for some mental rehearsal of sorts if you are up for it. http://lifeofabutterflywife.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-do-you-do-it.html

Take care.

most of my co workers know my liberal leanings. but the usual stupid questions from strangers have started to just piss me off, more so since the extension. I usually say something like, I'm sorry I'm not prepared to talk about this right now, then I get up and leave. My friends... well sometimes I just look at them and ask did they THINK about the question before they asked it...
